Calories are bad at math. They stick to our bodies by the pound and leave by the ounce. Nonetheless, “weight” loss is possible by following a regiment of exercise, reduced caloric intake and time. It takes time to see the visible results of positive lifestyle changes. We have to “wait” for the “weight” loss. This is true for a body as well as for a community.
Thanks to a gracious volunteer, we have a new map showing a one, two and three-mile radius around the Valley Dream Center main campus on Shields and Maple. It represents our strategic plan to free our neighborhood from the heavy burden of relational, economic and educational poverty.
Our threefold plan of Rescue, Restore, and Release will bring practical resources to those in need and deliver them from the unwanted weight of poverty that clings to themselves and their families. It is a strategy that will work…eventually.
Our biggest challenge is our patience. It took decades for brokenness to envelop our neighborhood, and it will take years to eradicate it. Investing in others is a long-term commitment. It’s about quantity and quality. We must be willing to “wait” and see the results of healthy lifestyle choices. Scripture says:
“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
As a tax-exempt nonprofit we depend on the charitable contribution of individuals, businesses, and public agencies to provide necessary resources to help individuals learn to live in freedom. We show the love of Christ in practical ways and develop relationships that allow for a safe healing environment. Then we track the success stories of those within the three-mile radius of our central campus. We turn “wait” loss into “wait” gain.
I encourage you to copy this map and keep it in plain sight, perhaps on your desktop, or a wall at work or home. Within each circle are impoverished boys, girls, moms and dads wanting to get free. With your help the Valley Dream Center can help them go from brokenness to freedom. Rescue, Restore and Release.
Thank you again for your willingness to serve and to give. You are highly valued and appreciated.
